Just got some 10AWG wire in the mail and the exterior wires appear to be off-colored (corroded?) the entire length. The interior wires seem to be OK. Is this wire hosed? It's supposed to be new OFC copper wire!!

it could be a coating on the exposed parts or it could be corrosion. just cut back to where it isn't oxidized.

and try not to touch with bare fingers too much....that will cause some corrosion.

It wasn't a coating. I stripped a new section and it didn't look right, kind of dirty. Then I looked closely through plastic coating and it seemed to continue the whole length of the cable. It's not like a smooth coating on the wires. Some wires seem to be OK, and some are almost black.

I've got some very old Monster cable and it still looks new through the sheathing!

Sounds like the copper has been oxidized from air over time. The coating around the wire is letting air in. Try to find wire that is "Oxygen Free" so it won't oxidize over time.
