I have a couple of Jamo speakers rated at 4ohms and a resonable Kenwood all-in-one hifi system which asks for speakers rated at 8-16 ohms...the speaker's wattage is higher than the output from the hifi...can I use these speakers with this system or am I likely to blow it up?
Cheers

Normally I'd say go for it, but an all-in-one shelf system may not be able to handle the extra load. Ohms mismatch is much more deleterious than watts, and with the receiver so "small" and the speakers so "large," your receiver will likely run much hotter and possibly burn out. Why don't you look into ways to increase the resistance on the speaker line to 8 ohms -- not sure if it's feasable -- otherwise replace the speakers or the receiver so that the specs "match" better -- ohms is a must and wattage should be approximate. You can always test it out and see how it performs, but proceed at your own risk.

Thanks DigIT, the Jamo speakers are just lying around and we have the TV running in the other room for programs and the kids play video games in there...I just wondered if I could make use of them...don't think I'll risk it. Cheers
