What's with the lights on DVD Players?
I have 2 DVD Players, a SONY DVP-NS715P and an OPPO DV-981HD and much to my surprise the panel lights on both of them only work when they feel like working. The Sony is around 9 years old and the Oppo is around 5 years old, is this kind of behavior to be expected? Is there a way to check or fix?

I know that with Oppo, if you contact them you'll get a response from an engineer who actually knows what he's talking about. Of course, that answer may be that it's time to buy a new player.

My Oppo has a setting to turn the LED off during playback and on when pressing a button on the remote. Did you check that?

The lights have always been on and one day they just stopped working. As I said, they come on when they want to - they will be on for 5 minutes and then off the 10 minutes, it matters not whether it is during playback or when pressing a button.
