I'm getting ready to order a universal remote for my new bedroom home theater system. I was going to order another Home Theater Master SL-9000 like I use with my main system. However, I started looking at the Sony AV2100 and it looks like it has several features I could use. There are some commands that I havn't had luck getting into my SL-9000 that the AV2100 may resolve. I'm thinking about getting the AV2100 for my main system and moving the SL-9000 into the bedroom.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Sony AV2100, or any other remote I should be looking at? I don't want to spend too much over $100 for whichever I buy.

I have a rm av2100 touchscreen remote from sony, and I am very happy with it. I found it at www.globalmart.com , and I only paid 124.95 for it, with no coupon. I dont work there or own the place,I found it through a random search engine. 124.95 IMHO is a great price for this remote.

I have a 2100 as well which I purchased when my Pronto was being repaired. I picked the Sony over the SL-9000 because I prefer a touch pad to hard buttons. Of course lots of people like hard buttons better because your fingers learn the positions of commonly used features.

In terms of power and flexibility there about equal and both have quirks. If you check out the remote central forums as ice1138 suggested you'll find lots of posts discussing both units.

The Sony AV2100 is a very versatile universal remote control. I have one and would not do without it. Besides having the backlit LCD display and 3 macro command capabilities, it is a very sturdy remote that will never be lost in the couch cushions. The backlight is strong enough to read a TV guide to (I don't recommend reading by it regularly) and it has enough different modes to do away with EVERY remote control you have. The best part is that if it doesn't have the code to your piece of equipment, you can program it in! I got mine at http://www.unclestereo.com for $99 during one of their specials. It was so good that I got another one for my brother-in-law the next week! The only drawback is that it uses 6 AA batteries and if you watch as many movies as I do, this only seems to last a couple of months.
