Haven't bought a TV in years, need some advice for a bedroom TV purchase

The last TV I bought was a Sharp Aquos 46" for the family room about 4-5 years ago. I love it. I'm looking to get a something in the 32" range for the bedroom(have about 42" in wall space to hang it, so 40" is probably too big) but have no ideas what brands to look at and what brands to avoid these days.

Being that it's for the bedroom(and not used for intensive movie viewing), it doesn't need to be the biggest, best & most expensive (I guess 720p would be okay), but I don't want a piece of shit either. LED? LCD? I'm looking in the sub-$400 range.

Any advice?

I'm looking at a plasma for the bedroom. I watch in almost total darkness and I think the backlighting of a LCD gives off unnecessary light. I don't know if there's any advantage of either LED or LCD in that area since it's just a difference in how the backlighting is provided.

Plasma doesn't come that small, so no question there.

I guess that wasn't too useful, so.... I was pretty happy with my Panasonic 32" LCD. Until someone took a broom to it. Good colors, adequate audio, good viewing angle.

Any chance you can fit a 37" in that space? We were in the same situation the same time last year and I'm so glad we bumped it up the extra 5". Picked up a Samsung 1080p LCD off of Amazon Warehouse for $375 and couldn't be happier.

Not finding anything that cheap at Amazon, Matty. They're hovering around $450 on the Warehouse.

I've been eyeballing some at Target. I'm looking to spend around $350. The 3 I'm looking at (all 32")

Philips LED - $330
Panasonic LED - $330
Sony LCD - $350

I just dropped off my first HDTV at a recycling center this morning, it was a Sony 57" about 9 years old. It should have lasted longer than that, IMO. I also have a bunk (9 month old)Sony BD player and a dead PS3, so I'm not quite a big fan of Sony at the moment.

Any thoughts?

If you don't mind having a 720p set, there are a couple decent deals in the Warehouse right now

Panasonic VIERA TC-L32C3 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV - $278.99

Sony BRAVIA KDL32BX320 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV - $329.13

I'm in the same boat and I'm looking at the two below. Any thoughts? For me the diff is about $100. Is Insignia an OK brand?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia...2#BVRRWidgetID

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...0607&N=4047300 4294966781&Mo=1&No=1&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=

Although the Costco link says 720p, the one in store is 1080p.

This would be my suggestion. We have a similar 32" Panny in our bedroom.

Panasonic is pretty solid and given the size range and likely viewing distance (assuming you'd be watching it from bed on an opposite wall), there's absolutely no reason to go higher than 720p.

Corvin, I don't know how often you check this thread or if you picked up a TV yet, but you might want to check out Target. Looks like they have a bunch of their 2011 TVs on clearance. Most are still in the 15%-30% range, but some hit 50%. You might be able to find the 32inch Sony for $189 or even the 40inch Sony for $289 (which I actually picked up today). Good luck. Here is a list that someone put together on SD
