I need some help to find a fairly simple HT system for a dorm room/apartment. I've been looking around some and I'm taking a good look at those Klipsch Quintets. I hear there are comparable ones from Paradigm and Polk Audio. Also I need a receiver to support DTS (planning for the future). I think there might be a Yamaha that could work, the HTR-5250 I believe, but I'm open to any brand. Thanks for all the help.

Look at either the Sony DB840/940 or the older DB830/930 receivers. One Call www.onecall.com is closing out the 830 at $319 for example. These are very nice recievers, not just 'bargain basement' type equipment. They have DD5.1 and DTS decoders and a good number of inputs plus plenty of power (an honest 100w/ch). I'm very happy with my DB930.

The Kenwood VR407 is a great bargain receiver, with 500 watts of power, DD/DTS decoding, loads in Sivdeo and digital inputs, its a great deal for $243 @ onecall.com

Thanks for the receiver recommendations, but what about the speakers? Will the Quintets be the best value for the money, or are there others that are a better value? I could also use some advice on whether to spring for the surrounds right now, or hold out to get the rear speakers later. Thanks again.

Or you can get the HTB-503 package, taht comes with a 100w 8" sub, and all 5 speakers, with the reciever mentioned above... great deal as well.

not sure if this solutoion is too low key for you .. but it worked great for me before I got my BIG setup: the cambridge digital desktop system : receiever, 5 speakers and passive sub ... generate enough sound to fill my manhattan apt. (about dorm size) ..

only draw back: now remote ..

etails for 199 at buy.com

Anybody seen any professional reviews of the Energy Take 5's? I'd like to compare them to the Klipsch's.

Thanks, but that Home Theater Forum doesn't seem very friendly. Especially when compared to this one. Thanks for the audioreview.com link, but I was looking for a review from a magazine.
