Audio hookup scenario
So in my friends house he has a unique setup and I am looking for some input to see if what he wants to do is possible.
I have an illustration below to help visualize the scenario.
I am usually good at this stuff, but I am getting lost with where to plug the sources. I know I could just use splitters to just plug everything in but then there would be no choice on whether he hears music or not.
Any ideas?
Thanks for looking......
I have an illustration below to help visualize the scenario.
- the receiver and audio source are in a closet in one side of the house. And the audio source is hooked up to video/audio 1 input using rca red white cables.
- The television and his bose 3 piece sound system are in another room.
- he wants to be able to use the bose speakers to watch his television, and or listen to the music which is played in his closet throughout other rooms in the house.
- The bose system does not use speaker wires, instead it uses a red white rca cable. These red white cables could plug into the video/audio 1 output in the closet

Re: Audio hookup scenario
Receiver Out to switch In.
TV Out to switch In.
Switch Out to Bose In.
There are push button switches for very little, or you can probably still find a remote-controlled switch if desired.

Re: Audio hookup scenario
Hey spikey, I hooked it up.......when I select the tv the sound works, when I select the receiver no music comes out of it. It is hooked into the receiver at video 1 output for the audio. Music is sent to the receiver video 1 input on audio.
Receiver is sony st-de635.
Any ideas why no sound is being sent through the output?

Re: Audio hookup scenario
It may not accept Video 1 In and Out at the same time. Plug into a different Output on the receiver, see what happens. i would probably just use the MD/Tape output.

thanks for the idea......I will try it. The thing is though; I want the sound that is going into video 1, to get to the bose speakers as well. So I am not sure it would work that way.

Re: Audio hookup scenario
Instead of starting a new thread, I'll just ask this here and see:
I have everything running through my receiver, so HDMI receiver to TV, then XBox, DirecTV and blu-ray into receiver.
My XBox is component but I'm going to get a new one w/HDMI. I have no more HDMI inputs in my receiver but I have one in my TV. Can I somehow run the picture to the TV and audio through the receiver? THANKS~

What about optical out to receiver while hdmi to tv.....
FYI, I now have hdmi for xbox, and I do not notice any difference compared to component.....
You might be able to get some type of hdmi splitter at monoprice.....check them out. Call them up and talk to someone on the phone (who I am always happy to hear is not from another country), and they should be able to figure out what you need.
You can never go wrong with that site......

Also, they do have splitters and switches at Monoprice. I use a 5x1 HDMI switch myself because I only have one HDMI on my TV, but if you only need one extra cable, I'm not sure if it would be worth the expense.
