My 64" Pioneer RPTV died today. What now?
I've got $5k+- to throw down. I refuse to go smaller, and don't want to go projection.
What would you get?

Well, you've tied my hands. Are you sure a nice $3500 LCoS wouldn't fit the bill? 100+" screen?
You wouldn't want to drop down to "regular" LCD picture quality. Maybe the new Pioneer/Sharp Elite full-LED LCD. I suppose that is the other direction that would work. They appear to be 60" @ $5500, 70" at $6500, roughly.

My theater is in a basement that has a 7' ceiling making projection tough. Plus, the new LED screens are pretty amazing.
I haven't seen the Sharp Elite in person, but I'll put it on my list.
Another Sharp I'm looking at is this one: Sharp AQUOS LC-80LE844U
80" is a great size for the price, but I see mixed reviews with regard to reliability.

So is mine, hanging over a non-walking zone so I don't hit my head. I'm 6'4".

The Panasonic Plasma VT50 65" hands down but if you just want to spend money no matter what then try the Sharp LED Elite Pro-X5FD series

You could buy a few extra 3D glasses since you have money to spare!

Why not get the Panasonic Viera TC-P65GT50 which is cheaper and a slight downgrade from the VT50 "65?"
I have that TV and the Samsung LN55C650 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV which is a awesome TV I bought back in 2010 though the only problem is that it has clouding and flashlighting during really dark scenes and during the closing credits of movies.

My Pioneer 64" RPTV died last year and I replaced it with a Mitsubish 73". Couldn't be happier. Yes it's rear projection, but the picture is fine and it only cost $1500 (you can get'em for less now). They're not the 300 pound monsters you're used to; it weighs less than 100 pounds and isn't nearly as deep as the older sets. I suggest you audition one before you buy.

To follow up:
I viewed many of the sets mentioned here. Thanks to those who contributed. Ultimately the 80" size of the Sharp AQUOS LC-80LE844U won me over. It was not the best in any category, but came close enough in all of them, and the size is perfect for the room.
I'll be setting it up today.
