BOSE makes a TV... with a built in surround system ?!

Saw a commercial for this and am curious about the a/v quality if anyone owns one.

$5,349 for a 46" LCD and an audio system, all from Bose, sounds reasonable.

First question: who makes the TV?

Even the comments on CNET are slamming it. I'd listen to 'em...

I saw one around Christmas at a Bose outlet we have nearby. Large gorpy looking thing. They would'nt tell me who made the tv. Far more cost than value!

This is a product for someone with more money than brains!

I'm sure it will suck as much as their sound equipment.

There are two Bose products I do like. (Don't hate me for this. )

I like the (in ear) earphones, great bass. I also have one of those iPod Sounddock things in my office and it gives great sound. Neither did I pay retail for (I live near an outlet.)

Let's see, $5350....

SVS 5.1 speakers, $1200
Mits HC4000, $1200
Surprising 100" Jamestown screen, $200
Emotiva Amp, $900
Marantz preamp, $1500

Leaving $350 for mounts and wires.

Can you imagine what happens when a component in the Bose TV breaks? Off to the shop goes your entire entertainment system.

You could do better for the price. You can ALWAYS do better than Bose for the price - and get a company that tries to be faithful in their sound reproduction, instead of one who messes with it to make it sound better from their tiny little speakers.

I know it's a ridiculous price and I would not recommend this to anyone, or obviously buy it myself. I'm asking if anyone owns or has seen/heard it.

Well, you can't prove a negative, but I think the responses so far are indicative of something.

There are just certain base truths. You can either accept them or not. Anyone with an resemblance of knowledge about audio/video can provide a reasonable opinion about such a product and have done so here.

And those who have watched and listened to lots of products (like those around this board) can tell you with much certainty about such products. Again, you can believe it or not.

Lets look at the other end of the issue. I have never heard the SVS speakers that Spiky mentions in his post. But I would buy them without hesitation. Why? My knowledge of speakers, what I have heard, leaves me little doubt they are fantastic sounding speakers. I also bought my HD projector without ever seeing it. But again, based on my knowledge, reviews, reading, I knew it would work well for me, and it has.

So to answer your question, I'm sure someone, somewhere has heard or owes that set. But that doesn't change that it is, what it is.

LOL wow. I was just curious as to the video quality (and obviously the audio thats supposedly "surround"). I know Bose sucks and I have more than just a "resemblance" of knowledge. I would never buy any of their products.
On the other hand, I'm pretty sure Bose did not build the TV (minus the speakers inside of it), so, for all we know, it can have an astounding picture.

I can say with great certainty that it won't have any where near the pq of say a Panny Plasma which would cost a 1/3 maybe a 1/4 of that price.

I'll respectfully disagree with that statement. I own, used and tried many ear phones in all price ranges and like the sound in the Bose the best. Same goes for the Sounddock. Since I wasn't paying retail for the Bose items I bought and since my ears liked the sound, for me at least I am satisfied.

To answer that, the picture in the Bose store did look great. No doubt calibrated to look that way (not unlike your typical BB). When they would not tell me who actually made it I then would be unable to decide if, based on my knowledge of manufacturers and their qualities, I would want to buy said TV, regardless of the price.

I only have a couple of SVS bookshelf speakers but they are INCREDIBLE! Excellent product...

BB = Best Buy?

I disagree about Best Buy. I always see TVs not calibrated, often in Dynamic or other "torch" mode for the big, well-lit room. Bose might actually do it, though, to market the hell out of it.
