hooking up headphones to my HD TV question

Considering I don't have the money to invest in any surround sound audio equipment, I want to be able to use my headphones when watching blu-rays on my blu-ray player.

I have a Soniq 32" HD TV and a Soniq QPB301b Blu-Ray player (am currently just using the TV speakers, which are giving me 'buzzing problems' whenever I turn the volume up to loud which is annoying)

My Blu-Ray Player is hooked up to my HD TV via a HDMI cable and it lacks a headphone jack. Would buying a "stereo female to 2 RCA male "Y" cable" able me to use my headphones for audio when watching movies on my blu-ray player obviously on my HD TV?

this is what the cable looks like: http://www.cablewholesale.com/prodim...le-y-cable.jpg

keep in mind right now I'm using a HDMI cable for video and audio, will that have any effect?

thanks

You can do that, but you won't have volume control. (unless your TV has a variable audio out, but most don't) It will likely be too loud or too soft, and if too loud could damage the phones. You could add a headphone amp as a solution to that problem, but they aren't free, either.

well my headphone set has a adjustment wheel for volume, are you saying that function wouldn't work if I connected it to my HD TV.

headphone amp, sounds pricey.

Your Blu-ray player will only be outputting "line level" from the RCA output jacks, which typically is too weak to drive most headphones.

There are certainly expensive ones to be found, but inexpensive also. Ex:

The volume control on headphones is not going to be enough, that's just a small limiter and can't boost the signal.

Re: hooking up headphones to my HD TV question

I have used headphones on my TVs headphone/stereo-out and have had adequate and variable volume on the last 2 TVs I've done it with. I mute the TV and turn its volume up to around 50% and then use the headphone's volume to trim it to exactly where I want it.

I looked at manuals for a couple Soniq 32" LCDs and they appear to have headphone-outs.
