Prolly a seperate amp/crossover.
Any advice on that would be good, as I don't know much about them. It was a spur of the moment purchase, as many of mine are..
Any Advice on setup of these?
Where to get a cheap amp / crossover?
Installation tips?
-Thanks

Thanks! I ordered a couple.
Though these are not "Aura" bass shakers, they seem to be identical. Here is a site that gives the instructions for installing an Aura bass shaker: http://www.smarthome.com/8249.html
One way to make sure that they are only receiving sub-100Hz signals is to connect a Y-adaptor from your processor or receiver's sub output. Then you can send the sub signal to both your sub and to a separate amp driving the bass shakers.

sounds like a great deal, but a few questions!
1) are the shakers installed instead of a subwoofer and/or in addition to one?
2) do the shakers need a separate amp or can i attatch it to my ONKYO 575 receiver?
any info or experience with this would be greatly appreciated!

It says that these are 4 ohms. Many receivers are rated at only stable to 8 ohms. I wonder if they will be able to safely drive these... seems their power needs are low, however.
edit:
I guess you can wire these in a series in order to drive them safely, eh?
And yea, I think you'll need a seperate amplifier unless you have an open subwoofer channel on your receiver. Unless you want to also get a crossover.

It says that it works best with 10 watts of power. I have a spare amp, but it is 100 watts channel at 8 ohms. I have had no experience with tactile transducers can you blow these like a conventional speaker? Maybe if I buy 4 and wire them all in series that would help.

They have a friendly return policy, so I ordered (2) plus the 10 watt per channel amp normally used for a walkman (Catalog # PCA-941). I believe that if you use a "Y" adapter before entering your powered subwoofer, send one to the sub, and convert the other half of the "Y" to whatever input the "mini" amp has it should work.

The best way to wire them is in series.I used to own 4-Aura Bass Shaker Pros powered by an extra receiver.I used the Yamaha RX-V590.Any cheap receiver or amplifier will do fine. You can either mount them to the frame of the couch or chair,or you can do what I did.Get a sheet of 1/4 plywood and cut it about 7 inches wide and how ever long you need it to mount from one side to the other.Do not get 1/2 or 3/4 inch because it is to stiff and it will not resonate properly.Make sure you also Y off your sub out and run it to the extra receivers tape loop. Now you have the power you need and a volume control for the shakers as well.If you really get to like them, eventually you should get a Clark Synthesis Tactile Transducer. The Clarks have a much smoother tactile feel and a lot more power handling.I upgraded to two Clark 229`s powered by an Audiosource AMP1.The Audiosource amps are stable down to 2 ohms.Good luck

Hi SEH,
Tactile Transducers do what most subwoofers cannot. They REALLY do add the feel factor for music and movies.I would HIGHLY recommend that if you use the Aura`s,buy at least 2 pairs and wire them in series.

this amp that I am trying to use doesn't have normal speaker outputs. this is what it says on the back:
GND COM 4ohm 8ohm 16ohm 25V 70V
each one of those has a screwdown connect.
any ideas?
positive wire to 4ohm, neg to what?

I just got a call from All Electronics re: using their 10 watt per channel amp normally used for a walkman (Catalog # PCA-941)to drive these "shakers". The technician advised me that YES their amp will work, and additionally that the shakers are rated at 25 watts max.
I think I will install these under the sofa when my wife is away, sit down to watch a movie with her later (maybe ID4 or something) and see how high she jumps!

Hey brilon,
You said that you mount the shakers to the ply wood. Then what did you do with the plywood, did you mount that to the sofa or something, I've got these coming to me soon and I've got all the electronic parts worked out, now I just need to figure out what to do next. Thanks

Anyone wanna make a list of parts needed to wire four of these and instructions on how to do it step by step? I'm usually pretty good with the HT stuff, but I haven't really encountered the bass shakers before.

SirPablo,
If you have a 2 channel amp, power them by wiring two of them in series for each channel. If you only have a 1 channel of amplification it is a little more complicated you would need to do a parrallel/series setup. If that is the case let us know. All you need is a power amp or integrated amp, RCA cable to run a signal to the amp, some speaker wire and a little time.
Example for 2 channel hookup:
BS=Bass Shaker
1. Wire the negative of the first BS to the negaive on the right channel of the amp.
2. Wire the positive of the first BS to the negative of the second BS.
3. Wire the positive of the second BS to the positive of the right channel of the amp.
You have now completed a series hookup for the right channel and should be seeing around a 8 ohm load if the BS's are 4 ohms each.
Do the same thing with the other two BS's for the left channel. Good Luck

Any success with these over the weekend? Mine should arrive today, with the low power amp they say will work with them. Does anyone remember the short lived theater effect "Sensorround" from the 70's movie EARTHQUAKE?
