this is real hard to explain but the shading
when i watch a dvd.

example you know in oldschool video game

cinemas how you could see the shading on or

from a light source. you could see

how the light went from bright to dark to darker. instead of just flowing into the different grades. not very good. thats how my dvds are

What player are you using. That effect that your are describing is called 'banding'. The MPEG compression scheme is bad with color transitions, fade outs/ins and smoke. It's just something that DVD is stuck with for right now.

Sounds to me like you may be expierencing macrovision. Make sure your player is NOT connected to a VCR or a TV/VCR combo. Plug it directly into the TV or an AV reciever. If you don't have that option, buy an RF Modulator from Radioshack for about 30 bucks.

It's not macrovision, it's definitely banding. Some DVDs are going to exhibit this problem, especially cheaply produced ones. However, if you're seeing this on every DVD, then it could be the brightness/contrast on your TV. Try lowering these settings - most factory settings are way too high. Better yet, purchase Video Essentials or another calibration disc and follow the instructions. With the picture properly calibrated, you should not see this problem very often.

Good call, DigIt. Calibrate your set if this is happening on all DVDs you watch, rookieboy.
