Question Re: Samsung 32" (LN32C350D1D)

So I received the Samsung 32" Class LCD HDTV (Model No. LN32C350D1D) for Christmas today. I've become aware that it's only 720p and not 1080p, which I imagine adversely affects the picture quality if I'm using my PS3 to watch Blu-rays. I haven't tried Blu-rays on it yet (a friend was borrowing my HDMI cable), but was wondering if anyone has this television and loves it or had it and hated it. I have an option to return it for another if necessary, but would like to avoid that unless the set is truly no good. I did a quick search and didn't find anything, but this particular set may have been discussed before since it was one of the bigger Black Friday items. Thanks in advance for any input.

I have a 40" Sony Bravia XBR that only does 720p and my PS3 games and bu-ray look just fine.

How far away are you sitting from a 32" tv?

Anywhere from 5 to 10 feet.

Unless you want to use it as a computer screen, don't worry about 1080. I have a 32" 720 and it is just fine for HD material. We sit at similar distances, too.

As you can see, the human eye isn't going to be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080 at that distance. Don't worry about it.

Re: Question Re: Samsung 32" (LN32C350D1D)

1080p on that small of a set? No....save your money (or spend it on more good BD movies). They will look fantastic.

Two pieces of advice:

If your truly wanting the best picture quality, search around for appropriate calibration of your set. This can make a huge impact and 99.999% of the time greatly improve the pq from the factory settings.

And, don't tell your friends it is "only" 720p. My projector is 720p (94' screen @ 10.5 and 12.5 seating). I've had several tell me is was the best picture they had ever seen. Until I told them it was 720p, than they said "oh you should get 1080p"....LOL

I have a 32" 720p Samsung. I am away on vacation so I am not sure if it's that particular model. As was mentioned, get some calibration settings dialed in, sit back and enjoy. It's a great picture and I have been very impressed and happy with it.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I got my HDMI cable back today and hooked it up and it looks fantastic. Still need to tweak the settings a little, but overall I'm very impressed. Again, I appreciate all the feedback and I'm off to enjoy my new TV

Don't "tweak the settings a little". You need to calibrate. If you don't want to buy or rent a disc check out tweak.com (I think that is it). Or check for a thread of your set over at AVS to see if some have posted settings they have used.

Often the it requires significant changes to the setting. I know my Samsung LCD (46") model had a huge thread at AVS and I found one that work fantastic for my set and required changes to almost everything. Some of which I would have never tried without reading about them or using a disc (which I did try, but wasn't as impressed with the results).

Yeah, when I said tweak I didn't really mean tweak, I meant calibrate, but you're right. Thanks for the tip on AVS, I think I'll head over there now.
