My first DVD player and I haven't a clue as to what, if any, monster cables I may need! I do know that this DVD player does not have a coaxial output. I am also planning to add some kind of home theater system and at present have a VCR, cable service and a satellite hooked up to my TV. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!...rubypickle

Welcome to the forum!!! Just buy the cheapest optical cable you can find at your local stores!!! I would not worry so much about whether or not it is Monster!!! If you do choose Monster, you are probably looking at between $30-$50 for an optical cable...as far as a receiver to purchase...make sure you purchase one which includes a decoder for your Dolby Digital sound and if applicable...DTS sound!!!! You will need an S-Video cable if your TV supports this feature...

I don't think you will need an optical cable just yet, since you don't have a Dolby Digital receiver. You probably just need standard RCA A/V cables.

If the only input on your TV is coaxial, you will need a RF modulator you can get from Radio Shack or Best Buy. This will take care of Audio and Video connections.

For video:

If you have s-video input on your TV, use that to connect the DVD player, that is the best quality, and just get one at Radio Shack, Monster is WAY over priced and you won't notice a difference in quality.

If there is no s-video, use composite video input, connected with standard RCA video cable(again, buy at RS.)

For Audio:

Looks like your only option is your standard RCA stereo audio cable

When you get a receiver you will use the Digital optical or Coax. output for your audio.

Sounds like you need a receiver with all those devices! Good luck building your system!
