OK,here's another dumb audio hookup question. In order to enjoy Dolby Digital sound from 5 speakers,do I hook up my dvd player to DD receiver via the coaxial cable AND the 5.1 output jacks,or is it one or the other? Also, can you hear cds from just the coaxial connection,or would I have to hook up
the analog RCA jacks to hear two channel stereo sound?
Finally,my dvd player has a built in Dolby
Digital decoder,as does my receiver. So,when
I go in audio setup on my dvd player,do I set
Dolby Digital to Dolby Digital,or D-PCM?
D-PCM downmixes multiple DD channels down two two, correct? If I'm using more than two speakers, why would I set it to downmix?

Q: I hook up my dvd player to DD receiver via the coaxial cable AND the 5.1 output jacks,or is it one or the other?

A: Either, but not both.

Q: Also, can you hear cds from just the coaxial connection,or would I have to hook up

A: Yes, you can hear cds from the coaxial.

Q: Finally,my dvd player has a built in Dolby

Dolby Digital to Dolby Digital,or D-PCM?

A: Do you have the option for Bitstream? This would be the best option.

Well,my dvd player is a Sony s530. It has a built in decoder. I PLAN on getting a Marantz
receiver that also has a built in decoder.
