Sony SVL 595HF VCR?
I recently got a free Sony SVL 595HF and it didn't come with a manual or remote.
I tried looking up info about it and basically found sites offering service manuals and people selling them.
Does anyone have any experience with this model?
What features does it have?
Does it have an on-screen display?
Do I really need the remote to operate this?
Does anyone know what this originally sold for?
Thanks.

Re: Sony SVL 595HF VCR?
What's a VCR?
Just kidding. I have the very same VCR and it's a very good unit. The model number is actually SLV-595HF and to answer your questions:
- I have owned this unit for many trouble free years (circa 1994). I mainly use it to play the VHS movies that have never made it to DVD or Blu Ray yet.
- It has a number of features like VCR+, 4 head automatic tracking, Hi-Fi stereo, etc.
- It does have an on screen display that helps you navigate through all the various menus
- You need a remote to operate this, but any universal remote should work. I use the DirecTV remote to access all the menus. If you only intend to play movies and not anything else (time of day, timer, etc.) you probably won't need a remote
- This model sold for around $200
