is a DVD Considered hardware?

Any way I need some advice.
One of my DVD's Was Severly damaged, I am afraid it may have been by the Player itself, but am not sure, my other dvd's seem to play just fine.
I have a very deep scratch on the Play side of the DVD.
i have tried a Polishing Kit and A Skip Doctor kit so far with out sucess, While most of the damage is repaired there is still a slight scrach and a Deep Scrach, I guess what would be considered a Circumferential Scratch (quoteing the book that came with the Skip Doctor)
I was wondering if anybody had any Ideas as to how this kinda damage could be repaired or weather i would be better off looking in the bargins forum (thank goodness its not OOP)

If it's scratched beyond a certain point, there is no repairing it. If Disk Doctor didn't work I recommend pitching that disc and getting another copy.

As far as the machine damaging it -- very doubtful.

The DVD is ruined. Throw it in the trash because there is no way to repair it since dvd's and cd's work on the principal of little pits and indents to play sound and video.

Zen, while that is true, the pits you refer to are on the LABEL side, behind a clear piece of plastic, so depending on the damage It can be repaired, Because the pits are not damaged, just the plastic, however i think in my case the scratch is to deep http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/frown.gif By by everafter....
On the Flip side if you have damage on the label side (if you don't belive me next time you get an unsolicited CD in the mail that you don't want, Scrach the label, you will notice you can now see through the scracth)
Your DVD will work great at keeping the drink ring off the table.
