Can someone please tell me which DVD I can buy that optimizes my Home Theatre System? I remember someone saying they make one that automatically calibrates your system for optimum performance.

Where can I get it???

All help appreciated.

Avia Guide to Home Theater
-OR-
Video Essentials
-OR-
THX optimode in Fight Club and T2 DVDs (nowhere near as close to the other two, they say )

BTW they don't "automatically" optimize your HT... you still gotta do the calibration

Video Essentials is available as a rental at Netflix if you want to save some cash. You also need a sound meeter to properly calibrate a system with these discs. You can find the meters at Radio Shack for around $40
Kind of expensive for a one time use but worth it in the long run from what I hear.

Well, you can buy the SPL meter and then return it when you're done with it.

My thoughts as well, but it seems wrong somehow, then again, I have joined CH quite a few times. Where do you draw the line?

I set my system up last night using Avia (It is supposedly better for audio setup) and a Radio Shack SPL I got from where I work. It is actually fairly easy to use and it sure makes my system sound a lot better. It certainly isn't something you would need to do more than once, so probably renting VE from Netflix and then temporarily buying the analogue SPL (There is a digital one too) from Radio Shack is the way to go.
