I'm currently looking at getting a Mitsubishi HDTV 55" 16:9 Platinum series. Anybody have any input on this good or bad?

I heard they're good, although I opted to spend a little more, and got a Pioneer 58-inch. FYI a 65-inch is REAL tough to move, and the biggest reason I did not buy one that size.

I think you'd be pretty satisfied with the Mits. One question I'd ask is whether they lock into anamorphic mode with progressive sources; that will cause grief with letterboxed and 4:3 discs played on a progressive player.

Welcome! My understanding is that the new models do not. They now have the various options like Toshiba however I am not positive

My friend just got a 46" Mitsubishi HDTV about 2 months ago. I would think his is a newer model & it does assume that all progressive signals are anamorphic. The picture looks great for the anamorphic dvds, but not being able to use the progressive-in for non-anamorphic or full-frame dvds sucks. I have a 65" Toshiba HDTV (and they are hard to move up or down steps, but have wheels which make moving it in the room pretty easy) that allows me to change the screen type/size while using progressive signals. The difference is huge- my old player wasn't progressive, but my new one is & it made even the non-anamorphic dvds look 10 times better. So I would definitely make sure the one you get doesn't lock into expand mode. The salespeople didn't tell my friend about it & he was pissed when he figured it out.

Just want to pop my head in to make sure everyone understands that the Mits 2001 line does NOT lock on a progressive signal as anamorphic, ie. you can adjust the various screen formats using a progressive DVD player.

The earlier models could not do this and for some people was an issue. If you want more info on the Mits line check out http://www.Hometheaterspot.com in their forum section. This forum is run primarily by Mits people.
