I have a 2095. I use all 7.1 speaker channels (actually, since the front effects aren't used in full, I'd say it's more of a 5.3 setup). If you use the DSP effects, you should definitely put in the two extra speakers. Without them, things sound kind of exaggerated. Turning down the delay setting on the DSP modes helps quite a bit as well, but the 2 extra front effects speakers help more. I think delay on each of the modes is default at 1.0. I have a pretty big room, but I still turned it down to 0.2 to 0.5 depending on which mode.

I'm using all Energy speakers. 12xl sub, EXL 26 for Mains, 15 for rears, 16 for front effects, and a Energy Surround series center speaker (it's got a better freq range than the centers for the EXL series). The sub is in the front left of the left main. The mains point slightly diagonal in towards the listening area. The front effects are 7 feet up pointing down and in. The rear effects are also 7 feet up and pointing down and inward. The center is on top of the entertainment center slightly above the TV. All speakers are directs (no dipoles as suggested by Yamaha). I should have switched the front effects with the rears, but I got them aftwards, so it'd be a huge pain to take them down and switch them and point them all symmetrically again.

Hope this helps.
