What's up with that? http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/frown.gif

Yup, 99.9% of the DVD players out there can not reliably playback from CDRs/RW.

The only players with rock solid reliability are:

1st generation Sony (1997)
All current Pioneers

The Apex seems to have little problem reading discs as well. All of these players have dual laser pick ups and are the only ones on the market that can provide rock solid reliable play of CDRs. Every once in a while you see someone claim "well my Toshiba plays CDRs just fine" but by and large they got lucky with a disc or two.

If you have to have CDR playback look into the excellent offerings by Pioneer.

The Sony Technical Dept. might have gotten a call from Sony Music Dept.:
"Hey, do you offer the capacity to play CDR because it may cause a dent in our music CDs sales."

But this may backfire:
"Hey fellow DVD lover, do not buy the Sony 660, because it does not play CDR" http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/wink.gif

PS: I went to Sony Web Site. http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer...vd/index.shtml
It seems that NONE of their models plays CDR. Am I correct?

My Sony 560 does not play them either. It's okay...the performance of this slim little sucker is amazing!

I guess I will use my cd player for music...SOny kicks ass!!!

Sony stoped using dual lasers after the second generation of players. The only model that still has them is the S7700, but its expensive.

Buy a Pioneer DV-333. It reads everything... http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have the DVP-S300 which was part of the last Sony DVD series to use dual lasers, one for DVD and one for CD. Therefore it does play CD-Rs and although I cannot confirm it I beleive also CD-RWs. Of the current DVD players the Pioneers are CD-R compatible, and from what has already been said the Sony 7700.

I am searching for a progressive scan DVD Player.
I was looking at the Toshiba Web site, and found that the less expensive 6200 also supports CD-R. You can get it for less than $700.

The 9200 is too expensive for me.
