What gives you the most puch and what are the binefits of both?

Also where can I get a good sub line level cable cheap?

The actual "punch" can be set with the volume control on the subwoofer's amp.

By using the speaker wire method, you can use the crossover in the subwoofer so that your main speakers don't have to reproduce the bass. This is not an issue on most decoders as you can filter out the bass for the main channels, but for "plain" stereo it can help smaller speakers.

If you use the LFE connection then you are using the crossover in your surround decoder. The bass will be filtered according to how you've set you system up through the decoder. Some receivers are funny in that they don't send bass to the subwoofer in stereo only operation, so whether the subwoofer works in stereo operation depends on the receiver (most receivers do send the bass).
