I have a new Marantz SR-7000 and all the speaker posts indicate 8 ohm. My two fronts are 8 ohm, but I"m looking at a pair of 4 ohm speakers for the rears. Will this be ok for the receiver? Also, will the mismatched speakers sound ok together?

I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't suggest it. The 4 ohm speakers are harder to 'drive' than 8 ohm speakers, and will draw to much from your receiver, which is rated for 8 ohm speakers. You'll probably end up clipping your receiver a lot,potentially damaging both your speakers and your receiver.

My advice would be to go with a decent set of 8 ohm speakers.

Your Marantz probably has a pretty decent amplifier section, even if its not rated at 4 ohms. I was recommended a Marantz SR-7000 to drive my own 4 ohm speakers by my local dealer, although I decided on a smaller integrated amp instead of a receiver. However, keep in mind that my speakers have a fairly linear 4 ohm load (Dynaudio Audience 50s), and may not be as demanding as some other 4 ohms speakers, like Magnepan MMGs or something.

To be sure though, its probably best to write Marantz technical support an email with your question, or ask whoever you purchased the receiver from, as well as writing to the speaker company.

The mismatched speakers won't sound that bad since they're mismatched in front and behind. Ideally though, you'd have the same speakers all the way around.
