Crutchfield had the first shipment last week.
Retail is $2700 but they sell it for $2500
with shipping included.

The item is backordered big time as it is very popular. So I recommend you pre-order.

I bought it at a local retailer for the same price. (I could have wait for the online stores to start given it at a more discounted price, but I did not want to wait.) I am sure a couple weeks or months down the road you can get a better price online.
But as it is very popular, and it short supply I don't expect the price to come down much very soon, IMHO.

The price is quote steep though.
You can get a VERY NICE 16:9 rear projected TV for the same price or less, like the upcoming Mitsubishi 46807. (I believe.)

I saw them on display in J & R. They are selling it for $2149. But if you haggle with them they will come down to $1999 or less. Shipping is 5 % of the total cost.

$2000 is an excellent price for the 36XBR400!!!

Unfortunately there is no J&R (I think) in the Wash DC area, so I won't be able to price match!

J&R mail orders. Also, try Sound City -- best prices on Sony anywhere (call Joe at Ext. 708).

Thanks for the tip. I called SoundCity, they have it at $1995 + $125 shipping.
The stand is $200.

I will try to get my current pre-order cancelled.
The problem is that I made a deposit of $1000 already.

DVD players, ld players, receivers, wire and of course, dvds, are all online store items.
But a multi thousand dollar tv is something I would probably get from an independent local guy. It will cost more and the sales tax is substantial, but I have seen too many crappy tvs, even Wegas, and a local guy can install and deinstall and spare me the hernias.
