Anyone know if the MAGNAVOX BD PLAYER @ WAL-MART for $78 is any good?

I forgot to write down the model number but they had a double price drop (one last week and one this week) and they seem to be selling at a brisk pace. I still have not solved my problem w/ my SONY BDP-S300 which was expensive back in Fall 2008. Anyone have any reviews of how the MAGNAVOX BD Players are? Thanks in advance.

The Walmart site has a fair amount of reviews, although I can't link to it yet. It looks like the player is only profile 1.1, so it's not a good choice if BD-Live/Internet connectivity is important to you.

Not sure we are talking about the same model, but I bought a Magnavox BD player from Wal-Mart for my son's room. The video quality is great, but it takes a long time to load some discs. The remote is just ok. For a bedroom player I am happy with it, and I paid $200 for it when it first came out.

A friend who has one told me there is a firmware update that speeds up the loading. But, I don't know where he found the update download.

I updated the firmware on my SONY BDP-S300 but it still is not randomly playing certain movies that it did at one point (SHERLOCK HOLMES & STAR TREK)....I don't even think the casual blu-Ray fan even knows about firmware--it's a real bitch...

Just go to Best BUy and grab one of the open box Sony/Samsung/Panasonic players for around $100.
