I'm about to purchase a new set of floor speakers and new Yamaha DTS receiver and have been eyeing the JBL S310 and S312 (so far, I actually prefer the sound of the S310). I'm also interested in the Northridge Series, but I haven't found anything that really explains the difference between those and the Studio series speakers. JBL's website really doesn't help. Anyone know? OR, does anyone have recommendations for a good set of floor speakers (in the $500/pair range) that are good for a wide range of music AND movies? I've seen some Infinity RS-8's pretty cheap, but I haven't heard them yet. I'd love any input!

I picked up a pair of Infinity Overture 2's on ubid.com for $307 each or $614 for the pair. A tad more than you are looking to spend, but last year these speakers sold for almost $2,000 each and sound like it. They always seem to have a few for sale on any given day.

I have all Northridge series speakers (N-Center, N38s for front, N24 rear), and I like the sound for the money. The N38s give out a surprising amount of bass, and the N-Center is nice n clear. you can check out www.audioreview.com for other people reviews on these and all ohter speakers. Hope it helps. About the studio series, not sure what the big difference is. try checking out www.800.com and using their compare feature to line up some of the n and s series speakers together, or you could call their 800 number for CS help.

I have exactly same speakers as SirPablo (N-Center, N38s for front, N24 rear) connected to my Yamaha RX-795a receiver and it sounds great. I had done some comparision when I bought the speakers and could not find any information on the differences between Studio and Northridge. The only difference I could find was in the N-Center and S-Center. On the N-Center the tweeter is smaller 3/4" and on S-Center it is 1". I settled for Northridge since it was cheaper than Studio.

You might also look at B&W speakers. They might be a bit higher than your price range (depending on the model you're looking at), but they are excellent. You'll love the investment.

The only thing: B&W's are only available from smaller audio B&M stores. You're not going to find them in Circuit City, etc.

for your money. If so, pass on the Cerwin
Vega and check out these models:

majority of the reviews are from people who
