Okay here it is..after talking to some guys at a local retail store, i have decided to (probably) get a set of speakers and put off the receiver till i can afford the one I want.

1. I have four tall standing KLH speakres right now,(KLH 1230SB)and i realized that I cant use the speakres for the rears (if im wrong tell me) so i am looking to get a set up of a KLH center, 2 rears satellite speakrs along with a sub.
I can use DD with these speakers once i get a good enough receiver right? right now I only have pioneer prologic, good enough fro now...

2. So there it is, a system of KLH since I already have the two floor standnign KLH's. I figured i better get the speakers first since i have prologic then I will get DD later..but at least i have the speakres now. Tell me what you think..

You can use your speakers for rears just fine. As long as you have room for them. The only thing about using towers for your rears is that they might be overkill, since you're probably not going to get the same frequency range to your rears as to your fronts (for the most part).

Yes, you definitely should be able to use these speakers for DD in the future.

mnguye10, you are talking about the new speakers Ill buy that will be good enough for DD right? Yeah, I dont want to use the four standing for R/L and rears. The guy at the b&m store did say something about the problem of frequency of using the talls for rears. I will definetely just probably end up buying the system with the satellites for the rears.

here is what im looking at

1. I already have the four R/L speakres (only using two for R/L of course)http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000021YT9/qid=964746760/sr=1-4/103-71 94261-1874203

and im thinking about buying the center and sats.. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004SY4C/qid=964746760/sr=1-10/103-7194261 -1874203

and here for the sub http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000J3Q8/qid=964746760/sr=1-1/103-7194261-1 874203

there is a package with all this but 4 sats..and I dont know if I want that since I already have the two above for my R/L

this will be good enough for DD?

if anyone else has any advice keep it coming http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

I would suggest that you give it a little of patience and save that money for a Digital receiver. Adding more speakers to your existing speaker sets now isn't gonna make much of difference with your Dolby Pro-logic system. But, switching your DPL system to a Digital Receiver will make a world of difference. Your 4 existing KLH speakers are fine for now, I would get a D-receiver, then a Sub, and then a center channel speaker. Later on, you can always replace your KLH speakers if you feel the need for better quality speakers. It took me about a year to complete my system,...ummm, my rear surrounds still need stands http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif. But, the reward is well worth it.

DVDAnimation, well my problem is this...at least with Prologic i will still get surround sound which is better then simmulated surround with only a r/l speaker.

If I buy a DD receiver then im still stuck with only four speakers..(four big speakers btw) and in an apartment thats a lot of space. At least if I buy the speaker set then I will save a LOT of space and can still enjoy surround sound, and wiht me thats still an improvement even if it is prologic for now. If I buy the receiver now it might be a while till I get anymore speakers because ill be in school and saving up for g/f's engagement ring http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif so now I would like to get the speakers..does that make sense?

I would go ahead and get the speakers now.Having only 4 speakers with a 5.1 system will not benefit you at all.Having the mains, center, sub and rears with prologic will get you by easily until you can afford a DD,DTS receiver.

brilon, thanx thats exactly what I was waiting to hear....I went down to the b&m store today and checked it all out..it looks fine and sounds nice. I also got a demonstration of DD 5.1....Nice http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif Yeah, its cheaper to still go through amazon, about $40 worth. So thanx...

Without thinking twice, I would buy just a center speaker (you can get a KLH one pretty cheap) and the DD receiver. Use the 2 tall one for surrounds. You will be much happier with the DD recevier and 2 large surrounds than a Pro Logic system with a complete set of speakers. From experience I know that DD with no sub is better than ProLogic with a sub! (not to say a sub is not critical in a 5.1 system) Then as soon as you get the money get a sub.

THEN worry about your surrounds!
