The oldest DVD play you own and does it still work?
 

Over the years I have purchased several DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray players. But when it comes to reliability my Panasonic RP91K is still going strong after 9 years. This baby was just build like a tank. I am willing to bet the player has close to 5,000 hours on it.

The oldest DVD player I own is a Pioneer DV-K102, a multi-region (code-free) player. I bought it on January 30, 2001. It still works. The only problem is when I press the button to open the sliding tray to put the DVD in, it closes right away. I have to use the remote and press it a few times before it will stay open so I can put the disc in.

My PS2 - it still works! The other old ones I've either given away or sold. Right now, my oldest stand-alone is a Panasonic upconverter - it'll be the next to go once I get another PS3 and rotate my Sony blu-ray player into the guest room it's in now.

Yeah, my first DVD player was a Toshiba 2008, that I bought at the tail-end of 1998. It worked perfectly* until I retired it last year when I got a DVD Recorder with HDMI output and a Sony 360 blu-ray player to go with my new HDTV.

*There were a few discs it wouldn't play, like some Buena Vista DVDs (Lost Season 2, Prestige rental) that seem to be a firmware or encoding issue. And the remote control was getting a little sticky with some buttons that didn't want to work.

Sony, just sold it on craigslist for $15 a month ago. I bought it for around $300 the week sixth sense came out on dvd which was early 2000. Now I have 2 of the philips dvd players with the usb input, both are crap compared to the sony, but they have the usb port which is all I use to watch movies now.

Original XBOX in November of 2001, as far as standalone then it would go to my JVC VHS/DVD combo that I bought in the Summer of 2003 to go with a brand new 20 inch SDTV. Both still work excellently. Although the regular XBOX and JVC have both been relegated to the basement for secondary use.

Cyberhome CH-DVD 500.

I just pulled it out of storage to use as part of an alternate home theater setup. Works fine, although I no longer have the remote. According to Amazon, it dates back to August of 2002.

My Zenith player (forgot the model #), which was my first DVD player purchased in April of 2000. It's on its last leg though. It's constantly skipping and freezing every single disc I put in. It's hard to watch movies on it now.

I still own the Panny RP91 as well (the thieves didn't steal it when they broke into my house 13 months ago), but I haven't used it in years.

My Denon 2900 is 6+ years old and works just fine

I bought a Sony DVP-S3000 DVD Player back in either late 99 or early 2000.. This is still the dvd player I use today.. I've never been so happy with an electronics purchase before or since this dvd player.. I'd assume it has over 10000 hours of play time on it..

Yamaha DVD-S1800
Oppo DV-981HD

Both 2007 models, but purchased in 2009.

My oldest is a Toshiba that I bought in '01 (could have been late '00). I forget the model number, but it's the one with NUON (remember that loser?). Doesn't even do 480p, but it's still in use at my in-law's house on a secondary TV. Everything I upgrade gets passed through my systems then down through the family until it breaks completely.

At my work, which is a DVD authoring/video transfer house, we have three machines still work.

Panasonic RV-32 which was built in July 2002

Pioneer DV-343, built March 2001

Hitachi DV P725U built 2001

All three are still going strong after heavy use.

My Toshiba at home is from 2003 and still works as well.

Wow.. just did an DVDAF search to see when the earliest dvd that I may have bought was..

Usual suspects Released 1997-06-24 with that crappy plastic jewel case
The other DVD that might be my first.. was the Fifth Element.. that was released in a standard Cd Jewel case.

So its possibly my dvdplayer has been working since mid to late 97.. wow!

Pioneer DV-505

First player, purchased late 1999. Still works, I think, though the highest signal quality is S-video and I can't test it because none of my TVs have anything less than component connection. Not even sure why I still have it...

Sony DVP-S330 in '99

after a while just kept getting C13 00 error. Ended up getting a Panny XP30 in '03 and actually still use it.

Pioneer DV-525 since I want to say early '00. Still works like a champ.

I have an elite changer from 2000 and a Pioneer DV-414 in the bedroom that still works fine.

I have a JVC 701 from 1999 that still works. I don't really ever use it to play DVDs, though. It's being used as a single disc cd player in a system in a room we don't use often.
I think it was around $450 when I bought the thing. Yikes.

I have a Sony S530-D that I bought in 1999 for $499. I remember how awesome it was to watch DVD through an S-video connection, as opposed to VHS or SDTV. Its still connected to a TV, though its rarely used now that I have an HDTV and an Oppo upconverting player.

Ditto. Best player ever made.

Although not my oldest. My Sony S360 died years ago with the C13 error, but a hand-me-down S560 is still working pretty well. It is going to be replaced with a BDp, but I can't bring myself to toss it when it still works. If anybody wants to come by and "accidentally" knock it on the floor or something, that would be cool.

Got this one for $29.99 back in 2008. It's a Magnavox, its small but it works great.

I was kind of late getting into DVDs but my Apex 600-A from 2000 still works.

One of my kids still has the Toshiba SD6109C Receiver with built in Dvd player I brought them back in 1999 or 2000.
