Will Swivel Wall Mount Help Center TV?

I have a new 46” lcd that I want to hang on a wall in our lower level. I was looking at the bracket linked below that has both swivel and tilt, and can extend about 20” out from the wall. The wall I am hanging the TV on is 6ft in length. For the two studs towards the center of the wall, I do not have equal spacing from the sides (left side of wall to stud is about 23” and right side of wall to stud is about 32”) I would like the TV to have the appearance of being centered on the wall, and wanted to mount the bracket into studs (and didnt want to tear into the wall to perform mods).
Will a swivel bracket, with the bracket extended out somewhat, allow me to maneuver the TV to the right to even out the difference and hopefully not see a big mounting bracket on the left side of the TV?

WOW totally missed that- thanks!
I wonder if the swivel mount will give enough flexibility to center the tv via the extended arm? The wall bracket on those look to be less then 20" wide, so it doesn’t give much play with the various holes to center out the tv via the bracket on two 16 on center studs. And I really wanted to avoid toggle bolts.

Look closely at the part where the TV attaches to the bracket. You can position it anywhere along the bracket, limited by the distance between the mounting holes on the TV. But there is usually quite a few inches of play.

Most arm mounts don't really let it move side to side a little bit. But that one might.

Re: Will Swivel Wall Mount Help Center TV?

I was thinking of an option to help me center the bracket: Mount a piece of 3/4" plywood to the two studs with lag bolts and then use lag bolts to mount the bracket to the ply. Any thoughts on this option, I figured it may give me some flexibilty left or right to move the tv bracket so I can get it better centered on the wall?

Re: Will Swivel Wall Mount Help Center TV?

So after doing some quick measuring and leaning towards using the plywood option…I wonder if the plywood would be hidden from view by the tv? I am really having trouble visualizing this.

Here is the info:
The center of the wall is at 36 inches and is about 3 inches from the stud to the left of center and 12 inches or so away from the stud to the right of the center.

The back of the mount that attaches to the plywood is 20 inches wide
The front part of the mount with the arms the TV will be bolted to is 30 inches wide
The tv is approx 43 inches wide
The wall bracket swivels, tilts and extended up to approx 20 inches from wall.

Any help in determining if the plywood would be hidden out of view by the tv would be much appreciated!

That is a viable option. Although I don't think you really need it just to be offcenter a few inches. I think the mount will be adjustable enough, if that is the one you've picked. But you don't need to decide until it arrives and can actually play with it.

To answer the question: The plywood could be painted to be less visible. Or simply cut as short as possible to hide it.

If my calcuations are correct, based on the above info I provided for the wall/bracket measurments, I think I am only going to be about 5" off center, does that sound right? if thats the case, I may just skip the plywood and try to adjust the bracket some to make up for it.
