UPS just dropped off my new Sony STRDB930 Dolby Digital/DTS receiver. Will I notice a big sound difference from my old Technique Dolby Surround Receiver?

I can't wait to get home and set this up!!! Come on 5 o'clock.

mdX 07-26-00 02:31 PM

It's like hearing it again for the first time, only better http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

Patman 07-26-00 03:04 PM

Yes!

And if you don't, it's because your speakers are crappy. Good choice on the receiver, I have one too. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Next question!

Just switch between the two while you are watching a movie...big difference!!! http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

I still have to get a DD/DTS reciever, but im very sure it will be much better than pro-logic. Congrats!

Now I REALLY can't wait until 5 o'clock. I feel an illness coming on. Time to take some sick time.......

Does a bear s-ht in the woods? Are there spots on dice? Cats on mice? Can you tell the difference between night and day? Can you spell HUGE.

Happy Listening!!!

Dolby Digital sucks! Send it back!

Sorry, I just had to be different. My god man, leave work now! Go home and watch movies in 5.1 sound right now. Tell your boss that your prostate hurts - they have to let you go home then! http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I wouldn't want to fake a pain like that. Maybe I will just slam my hand in the door of the microwave oven and go home with some broken fingers. That is apparently a small price to pay......

John Sy 07-26-00 07:19 PM

Yes, there is a HUGE diff between Pro Logic and Dolby Digital. Just go home already and take the consequences the next day.

Happy listening!

weargle 07-26-00 09:13 PM

You'll ask yourself, "Oh, so that's what the rear speakers are there for!"

SS 07-26-00 10:29 PM

It's like the difference between stereo and mono. Yellow Submarine is a good test disk. it has both sound tracks on it. Switch back forth and be awestruck.

vwbeetlvr 07-27-00 04:39 AM

dolby digital sucks. sound comes from all over the place, the bass might give you a heart attack, and with 5 channels there is so much confusion that you wont be able to understand the movie. i suggest you stick to your old 19" mono black and white tv so the colors dont warp your brain, the small screen will also help you keep your eyesite, and the .5 watt piece of paper in the set that they call a speaker won't ruin your hearing and the one channel will make it easier to understand.

Wouldn't that make it 5.0?

Don't forget to make sure you det your DVD player to output DD/DTS. I helped my sister build a home theater, with a powered sub, all new speakers an Onkyo receiver and DVD changer and after running the wires for the componenets and speakers it was so late I didn't have time to finish. I got back a week later to tweak the system and noticed that the DD output wasn't selected in the DVD player. Her jaw dropped when I turned it on. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif enjoy the receiver!!

Simon 07-27-00 12:33 PM

Cheers Jason, yeah.

5.1 - 0.1 = 5.0

Its quite a serious point really, I mean why buy a sub if your fronts are capable of the producing the juice, apart from the signal separation part of it.

Webber 07-27-00 12:34 PM

Yup. Already hooked up the optical digical cable and set the DVD player to output in digital. Even got the SuperCool blue light when I played Fifth Element (one of my faves). I was blown away by the scene when they were shooting the torpedoes at the evil mass. They came flying over my head and I found myself ducking.

It even made watching my VHS copy of Jurassic Park better. Great music on with the helicopter landing scene.

Now, if I could only figure out the S-link control stuff. My receiver is behind wooden doors so I need the TV to S-link control for the receiver.

Any thoughts?
