Is the Monster Cable HTS 3600 MKII Reference PowerCenter worth $120?

I saw this line conditioner on craigslist for $120,is this worth the price? Looks like it's a stage 3 and retailed for $499. Has anyone had any experience with this? Am I better off looking for An APS type instead?

Unless you have some verifiable issue with your household current, save your money.

Surge protectors, yes, line conditioners, no.

Considering a quality 10 outlet surge protector will probably cost nearly as much, I'd say that is a pretty good price. But I'd agree with Brian about power, generally. A quality surge protector should be plenty.

So this this thing about liner conditioners is a smoke and mirrors kinda thing?

Well, yes and no.

There is such thing as improving AC power if it isn't perfect, but seriously, if your power is really bad you'd have brownout issues all over the place and an electrician would be the place to put some money. Or make the electric company fix something. And most power supplies in modern receivers, TVs, etc, can handle small issues themselves, not even really needing a surge protector, let alone a line conditioner. AND, just for comparison, Monster has a real AC converter for $1500, which is the real thing, completely reworking the electricity. (not that it's worth paying $1500 for it) This line conditioner really doesn't do a whole lot more than a surge protector.

OTOH, I paid about $120 for my surge protector. (retail $200 or more) 12 outlets, spaced so all of them can take transformer blocks, plus digital readouts for the amps being used and other features. So....I can't really say that isn't worth $120. (assuming it ain't broke, used is used)

Think of it like an insurance policy. I have a Monster Power 5000 and when my equipment took a surge monster replaced all my equipment within two weeks. Well worth it for me!

That looks less worth three digits to me.

I have to correct myself. Looks like the voltage converter is only $700 now. ;)

It looks decent, Monoprice seems to do well on stuff, making good deals to do OEM-type products. I've been looking at 750VA models for no more than $100, 1500VA for <$200. So there might be slightly better deals:

Or here's an off-brand, but seems to have lots of positive reviews:
