Obviously this year's models are nice b/c they have component video & the 16x9 mode (i'm talking about the 27" here)...but i've heard that this year's Wega has a "softer" picture than last year...is this true?

i thought they both use the same digital comb filter...the only difference is that on the new model you can turn off the velocity modulation scan

On the new ones you can turn the velocity modulation scan to "high", "low", or "off". For cable t.v., I turn it to "high". For DVDs I turn it to "low" or "off", depending on the disc. This t.v. rocks.

why do you turn VMS low or off for DVD's? is it because you want a softer picture???

Yes, I find that the digital picture from a DVD is much sharper than say, cable t.v., and the edges will become too hard with the velocity scan turned up high.
