Basically there are the top of the line and probably the best tube TV in the world. This year's XBR are HD-Ready and will display 480I, 480P, and 1080I. Akin to the XBR250, they will possess the "vertical line compression", or "squeeze trick" to display the full resolution of anamorphic DVDs. The XBR WEGA will also have a 3D digital comb filter, as compared to a 3-line filter on the S and V series and give you better results with analog cable and antenna broadcasts.

I saw it in my catalog 3 days ago.
Good thing about it, it the free shipping,
but alas for me I have to pay tax as I live in Virginia. ($112.50 in tax) unless I have it shipped to a friends house in Maryland.

I called a local retailer the same day, and they told me they are receiving it in 5 days.

I'll wait until they, and other online retailers start selling this baby so I can price compare.
I will definitively be buying it. I hold on buying the XBR250 because I knew the XBR400 would support high definition.

Actually, my understanding is that Sony does not permit its XBRs to be sold over the web... for example you do not see the XBRs listed at onecall.com, you have to call and get a quote. Additionally word is that Sony will be enforcing (i.e. prosecuting) more regularly "unauthorized" dealers. It might be hard to find a XBR400 online and you might be stuck with more mainstream etailers like Crutchfield, OneCall.com, and *gasp!* Circuit City!

Let's just hope Sony has fixed their infamous brightness on the left side of the screen problem - there was uneven brightness on the XBR250's, and Sony never did find a good solution that didn't involve messing with magnets, and the wires.

I bought my WEGA 36XBR when they first came out. It rocks and was worth every penny. But I sure as hell did not buy it from Crotch Field and get rapped. I actually mail ordered mine and paid $2000 delivered. Mind that this was only a month or so after they came out.
