new TV, what to get ???

I am in the happy situation that I "have" to get a new TV and I thought that this time i could cough up about 2K (get it ? Y2K = 2K ?? ok .. lame joke) ..
i think about 32" or 36" .. and as a brand name .. well, i am a sucker for sony ... i looked at the wega .. but i am not sure if i pay 1K just for the brand name ..
any recommendations ???
oh, and if it is a widescreen TV .. that would be cool
but they are hardly around in the US .. right ??

I have seen the cool green Philips set, but I didn't think it compared to the 32 inch Sony Wega I eventually purchased. I auditioned the Panasonic Tau set too, but I liked the more "in your face" colours of the Sony. You pays your money and you makes you choice...happy hunting...
