Ok, I have a tosiba 2109 that says it has a firmware version of 1.9 and I love that player, so today I went and got a 1200 (newer model) for my bedroom. Got it home, hooked it up, and noticed that it only has a firmware version of 1.5

Why is my newer model lower, I thought everyone else with the new toshiba 1200 was saying they had versions around 2.8 ?

Should I be concerned?

Re-numbering.

Thats the simple answer.

As far as I can tell, last I knew, there was 1.1(dec/99), 1.3(early march/00),1.5(late march/00) for the SD-1200.

I have 1.3, which is flaky on some DVD's (namely the abyss, on some menu's... like the pseudopod multiangle..locks solid) 1.5 apparently according to Toshiba tech support fixes this.

The last response I got from tech support was in April. My "guess" is by now they are up to 1.7/1.9 ? If anyone knows what's on latest manufacture SD-1200's lemme know.

My SD-1200 was manufactured early March, 2000 (back of the player).

I'm waiting to upgrade because I've had more then a few flaky disc's.. and I want them to catch more of the bugs. Yes, I also run the risks of these updates introducing new bugs in DVD playback, but I'm willing to take that risk and wait to send in my DVD player till later this fall while its still under warranty.

For those that do no know, Turn on your Toshiba DVD player, hit:
ZOOM, 6, 0, 6, ZOOM
on your remote control and you will see the display screen with all your players specs, including latest ROM (firmware)

Cheers.
Mike
