Ok, this may sound stupid but I've seen different people set their rears differently and was wondering what the proper rear placement is, Do the rears face straight towards the tv, or do they point to the center listener in the back. look at this diagram

option 1

option 2

Does anyone understand this question?

Thanks

I think I understand your question, and the short answer is "whatever you prefer".

As a standard, however, I think it is accepted that the speakers are mounted on the side walls, facing each other, firing over the listener's head. This is how they are postitioned in movie theaters. Many people, however, like to point the speakers down and in so they fire directly at the listening position. Again, personal preference prevails.

It is all personal preference, but you can look at the speakers in the room pictured here for a start.

And also here

this one is neat, 'cause you can click on the speaker and it tells you some info on why and where it is placed.

Thanks for the info and those links. Now I have another question. I've got a cheap pair of KLHs that are connected by a passive sub. They are preaty cheap but they actually sound preaty good for a set of rears. Has anyone every hooked up a passive sub in the rear before. I'm thinking about placing in the center behind the listener. I think this might add that extra little rumble. I would set it up now, but my basement is getting renovated so I'll have to wait a couple of weeks. Any thoughts?
