I will using my TV to watch my DVDs with S-Video but no speaker system. Both TVs are the same price. Which of these two TVs has better quality of video and audio overall?

I concur. I think the panasonic CT27SF26 is better. However, someone at a store told me they were discontinuing that model and closing it out. You might be able to find a good deal on it. I just bought the newer model, the CT27SF37 and am very happy with it.

I've got the 27SF36 (pretty much the same thing, just with a few extra features), and I think it's great.
I remember back when I first looked at the Wega's in the store and thought they looked amazing; now that I have this, I've gone back and they don't look nearly as eye popping to me.

IMO, the Panasonic offers more for the money. Panasonic sets are more reliable than Sony sets and the picture on the Panasonic flat screen should be much more accurate than the conventional curved screen on the Sony. IMHO, Sony products are overated. (the ES line being the exception)

Based solely on my experience, I would go with the Sony, which I believe generally makes televisions with more accurate color than Panasonic. I do not agree that Sony's are overpriced or unreliable. I currently own several Sony sets (8", 20" and 53"XBR) and have not had one problem with any of them. In addition, over the past few years I have purchased a V series 27" set and a 27" XBR as gifts, both of which are very good sets and have had no problems.
Also, closer in price (at least MSRP) to the Panasonic set you are looking at is the KV27V66, which may have slightly better sound and adds velocity scan modulation -- a kind of edge enhancement - which you may or may not want, but which is on the Panasonic set.
If you are interested in the Sony set, try pricing it at Sound City -- call their 800 number (do not use their web site) and ask for Joe (Ext. 708). They generally have great prices on Sony products.
