Reading the avsforum board, I saw that Toshiba is going to be stopping sale of their products starting June 1 via mail order and internet. This is almost pressing me into buying the set now while I can still get a good bargain on it instead of heading to a brick and mortar store. I can't find any info and pricing on new models that might be similar coming out soon. Any advice on whether to buy now? Also, the cheapest I seem to be able to find it shipped is $2300. Anything better out there?

Here is my 2 cents...

I would rather shell out a little bit more money to get RPTV thru a local store then thru mail order, because what if during delivery there is damage? For a local store you can always go back there and complain, but for online store? Be prepare to spend some time on the phone before some real person pick up the phone, plus the shipping cost to ship back the damage items to them???? It's just so much hassle I'd rather spend extras on local store to get some peace of mind.

I totally totally agree with rheuter!

The traveling is dangerous for a tv set.

The guys don't give a chit about your set when they put it in the truck etc.

I rather buy it locally. For peace of mind at least..I mean for a high quality set..we're talking big bucks..and if we're paying big bucks..we are supposed to be happy the minute we open that box and wake up the next day and watch the set again.

Not open the box sent by an online store and find it beat-up.

Thanks for agreeing with me sonic, we have so many things in common, especially D T S!

One more point to support why buy local: You can usually get extended service contract thru local stores and those contract usually will include annual (or bi-annual) calibration of your RPTV set. Now keep in mind calibration is VERY VERY important for RPTV because out of focus is a inevitable result from RPTV, and shell out extra 200 bucks per 6 to 9 months to calibrate would piss me off in no time. I'd rather pay something like 300 or 400 for a 4 yr contract. And when anytime I felt something's wrong with my set, just give the local store a call and they'll take care of it. Now that's the service I would not dream from online store.
