Onkyo 605 - Meet the Oppo BDP-83

I've been using the PS3 all this time for my Blu-ray needs, and was happy when I got the Oppo 83 as I could finally bitstream audio out to my reciever. However, it seems there is a VERY slight difference in the audio/video sync. Others may not be able to notice it much, but I do. It feels like the video is just before the audio, so the audio is delayed very very very slightly. We might be talking like, 10ms, or 20ms, I dunno. However, lagging the audio any further is an issue because it only makes the problems worse. When I set output on the player to LPCM, it's in sync. I only have this issue when doing bitstream with the lossless format to the reciever. I'm really not sure what I can do to correct such an issue, any suggestions? I'd really like to utilize bitstream.

Well it sounds the same regardless so why not let the player do the decoding? Lossless is lossless.

Contact Oppo's customer support. They're fantastic, and take this kind of problem seriously. You'll get a personal response. They need this kind of feedback on the player.

I think this is more of a reciever thing than an Oppo thing.

You should probably qualify such statements. There has been a long history of DACs not sounding the same.

It could be argued that the player in this discussion has a better DAC, though.

there is a setting on the onkyo 605 where you can change the delay response. Iremember having that problem.

Except it's not a DAC, it's decoding the compressed audio and streaming it as LPCM. It's still digital.

You can only increase the audio delay, in case the audio is ahead of the video. If the video is ahead, there's not much you can do with the options Onkyo gives you.

I see. I thought you meant actual decoding. It's more like depackaging if you mean stopping at PCM. Like unzipping a compressed file.

Precisely the issue. Ah well, I'm running it as LPCM right now and had to use the audio delay at 40ms. I'm good.
