Can you "reskin" studio headphones?

There must be some sound engineers or DJs hanging out around here.

I have a pair of $150 studio headphones that I use in the field a lot, so the thin rubber outer layer on the ear cups has flaked off quite badly. Every time I use them, I end up with bunch of rubber flakes left on either side of my face. I don't know much about audio equipment- do they sell any covers or anything for beat up headphones?

I would think checking the manufacturer's Web site would be the place to start. I can't answer your question specifically because you don't say what the brand and model of headphones is. I know Sennheiser makes replacement earpads and other parts for the headphones I own.

Yeah that's probably the best bet.

I had this problem with a pair of Sony headphones. I just picked and scraped all the stuff off, so that they were bare material over the foam. I didn't investigate replacement covers as I figured the cost wouldn't be worth it.

Although, since the covers are removable, I wouldn't be surprised if they were available at some point.

It depends on the headphone. 2 of the more popular studio headphones, the Sony 7506 (v6) or the Sennheiser 280s, have replaceable parts.
