I got a quick question. I have a DVD player but my TV doesn't have RCA jacks. I am filtering it thru the VCR right now but copy protection kicks in on almost every movie. I can't afford a new tv right now and can't find a rf converter at any radio shack (RCA to coax) so I was wondering if I can get those macrovision disablers to go between the DVD video output and the vcr video input. Will this work? Has anyone tried this? Please reply to [email protected]
Thanks. |
I would not take a chance on a Macrovision disabler box and would continue to search for an RF Modulator.
Try calling 1-800-theshack and maybe you can special order one from radio shack. Also, see the link below that lists magnavox and Speco RF Modulators -- I do not know how the thos products compare to the radio shack unit. http://www.supremevideo.net/SearchRe...e=rf+modulator [This message has been edited by AW (edited May 06, 2000).] |
got a black box that runs on a 9V battery that disables type 1 macrovision. the company is DALBANI, part # 55-1265. $16.95 plus shipping. phone (305) 716-1016.
this should allow you to pass the dvd signal through the vcr using red/white/yellow rca cables, then from vcr to tv with coax cable. only the yellow composite cable needs to pass through the black box. it's my understanding that macrovicion has created a type 2 copy protection expressly for digital products like dvd. . .whereas type 1 was created for VHS, but has been used on dvds released from 1997 until recently. so, you may come across some brand new titles that use type 2, which the box can not defeat. hope this helps. and i hope i haven't broken some forum rule regarding the order info i posted. i get no kick backs from this company, although as i have told many people about this product since i bought one last year, i wish i did see a small cut $$$. ------------------ removed personal attack [This message has been edited by gkleinman (edited November 15, 2000).] |
I used to use an RF modulator on my old set before I got my Toshiba TW40X81.
Try this item: Radio Shack part # 15-1283A It did a really good job. ------------------ Inching ever closer to the 1000 post club... |
So is there a type 2 disabler? How common is type 2 macrovision? Has anyone run across it? The RF Modulator is our at every Radio Shack in Austin, they claim to have been out since X-Mas with an occasional shipment every now and then. I think it's $30. The little black box sounds like it would work if most of the DVD's use type 1. I mean the quality would be the same anyway right? You are converting 3 rca signals into 1 coax either way, you wouldn't get better quality with a rf modulator over a black box right?
Thanks in advance. |
