TV Repair Costs
Has anyone ever had to get their TV repaired where it wouldn't turn on? If so how much did it cost? I emailed a place that told me I would have to bring it in and they would have to look at it to be able to tell how much it would be. I got no response when I asked for a price range so I'm wondering if anyone could give me an idea. To be specific it is for LCD.

Re: TV Repair Costs
I haven't, but I can say that it is probably $40-70 to have them check it out. Which would be applied to any repair you might do, but otherwise non-refundable.
If it is simply the power supply, that should be fairly reasonable. If it is the backlight, repairs almost certainly would cost more than a new TV. I take it warranty won't be helping?

What brand is it? I need to make sure I don't get one.

It is a Westinghouse, I've had it for 2.5 years now. Yeah, they told me they would take a deposit of $40 to look at it which would be returned if I decided not to have it repaired. Beyond that they gave me no idea of any other costs.

Almost all LCD and plasma repairs are basically the main board. My LG fell under warranty but the board alone was almost $400.
What size is your LCD?

My Samsung rear-projector also had a failed board - fortunately it was under warranty. I ended up getting it because my original JVC had a problem and they couldn't get the part to fix it. I bought an extended contract for it, so the warranty company replaced the set! I ended up with a decent 1080p (replacing 1080i) TV which is larger and has three HDMI inputs (versus one)!

Re: TV Repair Costs
This guy I work with had a 46" Sammy LCD that died. Even under warranty, they told him that it would be too much for them to repair it ($1,300), so they cut him a check to get a new TV. He even got to keep the old one, which he gave to me, and it's sitting in my basement. I figure I'll wait a bit to see if the part comes down & maybe I can get it fixed for a couple hundred bucks...we'll see.

No offense, but if you called an auto repair shop and told them your car wouldn't start, would you expect them to be able to give you an estimate to fix it?
