I have pioneer 525 player and kenwood vr307 receiver.

also, i need the player as a temp cd player. is it ok to have both the red/white rca audio cables as well as the digital audio cable connected to the receiver at the same time?

It's suppossed to make music sound better. I think it increases the dynamic range or something.

In any case, my 3109 supports something like this, but only through the 2 channel analog connection.

Try it either way with some favorite music cds and see if you like one way or the other, but I doubt you'll notice a difference.

Current DVD players aren't suppossed to be able to output this highquality an audio signal via the digital connection either. There are some players that can, but they're high end expensive things that use a modification to the DVD specification.

The 96kHz settings only matter when you play a dvd that is mastered in 96kHz. From what I know, only music concert dvds have this feature.

96kHz gives a higher treble headroom.

Kenwood vr307 only supports sampling rate up to 48khz. If you set the DVD player to output 96khz rate, information will be lost by the receiving vr307. It'll be better for the DVD player to output only 48khz to ensure no important information is lost.
