Opinions on the Pioneer BDP-51FD Blu Ray player
been thinking about picking this up. Anyone own one ?

Also, I currently have a 5 year old Pioneer VSX D812 receiver with 7.1 analog inputs (but no HDMI inputs). The BR player has the analog outputs. is it possible to get HD audio to the receiver (no DTS MA or DD Tru HD logos on the receiver). If so, which type? Thanks.

Re: Thoughts on the Pioneer BDP-51FD Blu Ray player
They say it decodes all the HD audio formats internally, but doesn't say if it sends all the signals over the 7.1 analog outputs. I guess most will take it for granted that it will.
It is known though that Sony's BDP-S550 and Panasonic's BD55 will send everything over the 7.1 analog outputs.
Pioneer lists the price at $599, but Amazon.com has it for less than $300.

If the receiver has 5.1/7.1 analog input, you can get the full benefit of the HD audio codecs with the proper BDp. I am.
Check the chart at AVS in the bluray audio sticky thread to see what each player really does. Best resource on the web.

That would depend on the DAC in the player vs the DAC in the receiver. I've seen very little discussion so far comparing such things. Which is weird considering audiophiles have spent the last, oh, 60 years comparing such things in such minute detail as to make normal people kill themselves just to be off the same planet. Maybe I haven't been looking very hard.

HTF has a review of this player (well, the 51FD is a clone of the 05-fd)

Re: Thoughts on the Pioneer BDP-51FD Blu Ray player
Per the above review (if indeed the same player)
The 05FD does feature 7.1 analog outputs and does allow internal decoding of all sound formats (albeit DTS Master which should be coming soon in a update). I did not test analog audio quality on my system for this review, but I can guarantee with the internal build of this player, separate power transfers and features like Wolfson DACs it will be a real knockout.
I do find it rather interesting that he doesn't test this but "guarantee's" it will be a "real knockout". Wow...why even list to anything? Or watch anything? If you can "guarantee" the quality simply by the build components, no real need....LOL
But that is off topic...it appears the BD player will decode so you can use analog out to your receiver to get the newest formats. You would then run HDMI directly to your display.

Real knockout. Yeah, to your wallet. Buy the damn BD-55. For the price, you can't go wrong and will do the things you want (7.1 analog connection of audio).
