I am interested in buying this brand new dvd player but I don't know if there are any problems with it. The previous dvd player I bought had picture and lock up problems when I watched "The Matrix." Do you you know if the SD2008 player by Toshiba will have any problems?

Thanks in advance.

I own a Toshiba SD2008 DVD player and I'm very happy with it's performance, but I had audio drop out from time to time. I read online that there is some kind of the firmware fix for the audio drop out problem. My SD2008 was still under warranty so I sent it in for firmware upgrade. I haven't seen audio drop out since. Sorry, I can't recall the firmware version. If you do a search you should be a find the anwser. Since your buying a Brand New one, hopefully Toshiba is shipping the latest firmware.

Tanaka,

I also own an SD-2008, and like CyberZombie I only ever had problems with audio dropout. But sending in for the firmware upgrade has since made that problem disappear. I have never had any other problems with lockups or skipping, or discs not working.

Tanaka; make that a third for someone who loved the 2008 but also had the audio dropout when playing DD5.1. Just a thought, with the new SD1200 for $169.95 shipped at www.mobshop.com make sure you're saving a ton o' bucks. A newer machine will not have the audio problem and will have the DTS decoder built in. I think most would agree a 2008 even brand new in the box wouldn't be worth much over $100 - $125. The only advantage is it has the bigger easier to use remote than the newer models.

If you still decide on getting the Toshiba SD2008, I think you can later check its firmware by pressing zoom-6-0-6 on the remote. I'm not familiar with the SD2008, but it works on both my SD2109 and SD3109.
