I've had lockup problems before with "Enemy of the State" and I know this is normal because of my older firmware (108) but now I bought "Judge Dredd" and at around the 17:30 mark it skips all the way to the ending credits. Is anyone else having problems with this title? It plays fine on my friends Panasonic DVD Player. I did a search here but didn't find anyone saying they had problems with this.

Thanks

I just sent my SD3109 out as it no longer recognizes any inserted disks. This probably is not related to the firmware version, but I ran across these posts and was wondering...

1. Toshiba absolutely will not tell me what the latest firmware version is, does anybody know. I've seen v2.1 and 2.4. I got mine for Xmas 1999 and will check my version when I get it back. Hopefully it is a more recent version

2. How did somebody figure out the Zoom, 606, Zoom way to get the version #. It doesn't seem to be documented and as per #1 above, I'm sure Toshiba wouldn't have told me.

3. Can this upgrade be done at any authorized service center and if no, why not. It cant be that hard.

4. Most importantly, why is Toshiba totally blowing this off. As I said, when I called, it was like pulling teeth. When I mentioned that I had some peculair problems of this sort, they wanted exact deetails. I mentioned I thought it happened on the Enemy of the State and Armageddon DVDs as I read these are generally a problem (I can't remember which caused me the slight problems), they wanted me to re-rent the movies and call them back while watching them to duplicate the problem. It's not like they haven't heard this before!

Thanks for any info/help, Mike

Well, I just got a reply from Toshiba Tech support. I was having problems with three disks on my SD1200 (I havent had the player long enough to sample much more then a dozen or so.)

Abyss, Dark Crystal, and American History X were all having skipping/stuttering problems at particular points in the movies.

They didn't in their email response mention anything about firmware, but said they would replace the unit free of charge.

Now I gotta email them back some information, and ask a couple questions, like, Is is really totally free to me, including all shipping costs? Is the new player going to be sent out first, or do I have to return mine first? Will they ship a system to Canada, or will I have to re-dick about proving to Toshiba Canada that it needs a fix.

I wonder if the SD-1200 even has a new Firmware since its so new? Mines marked as Ver 1.3. (different numbering scheme?? *Shrug*)

Toshiba, and the industry in general, must take a more proactive approach to firmware updates (local service center ability to preform the task), and the customers rights to a consumer electronic that JUST WORKS! Not tell us, well, you'll have to this, or that, or this ... and go around in circles. How much longer does this technology need before it JUST works, and isn't touchy about what particular DVD is in the machine?
