Harmony RC: 880 Or Lesser Model?
I'm purchasing a Harmony universal remote control for my Samsung HDTV, Samsung HTIB w/5 disc DVD changer, and Verizon FIOS HD box. I've got a refurbished 880 on backorder at Amazon for $ 75.00 but who knows when it will come back in stock. In the interim, I've been wondering if I could make do with a lesser Harmony model (such as the 550) given that my system is fairly simple. Any thoughts from people who have experience with Harmony RCs would be appreciated.

Re: Harmony RC: 880 Or Lesser Model?
Well I have seen the 550 go for around $49 and it's a decent remote but for $25 more the 880 is a much better deal. The 880 has much more flexibility and macros. I would hang tight and wait for the 880. BTW you might want to shop around for a new one,I have seen it go for around $99.

99 bones here:
http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=LTHR800UR never heard of the site though. I have the 880 and it's pretty sweet. I have big hands and it's not the easiest to manipulate, but the set up and programming options are terrific. |
Re: Harmony RC: 880 Or Lesser Model?
I have an older model, the 676, running my receiver, plasma, blu ray, DVR, and cd player. It works great. I like the nice color interface of the 880, but I got the 676 for about $40 from amazon on clearance. At the time, the 880 was still over $200.
So, yes, a lower model should be able to run your system just fine. Still, if I were to do it again, and the price was only $75, I'd probably do the 880. |
Re: Harmony RC: 880 Or Lesser Model?
IMO if that is what you are controling, the real advantage to the 880 is rechargable cradle and nice color screen. If those don't impress you, then yea get a lesser model.
I do love my 880 tho. |
