Am I Crazy (120hz HDTV-Related)

I purchased a 42" Sharp Aquos LCD TV almost two years ago and I use it for gaming, Blu-ray viewing and occasionally watching TV. It's a great TV, but now that it's been a couple of years, I feel like I should upgrade to something different, especially since the 120hz models just came out and I read that they're quite a bit better because of their quicker framerate capabilities, mainly when it comes to gaming and sports, which are two of the main things I use my TV for. I'm considering selling my TV and paying the difference for a 52" Aquos or Samsung 120hz model, but I'm wondering if it's really worth it or if I'm just crazy. Is there really that much of a difference?

Sounds like you have a shopping disease. If you must look for an upgrade, try plasma.

I wouldn't say that - I just have a weird OCD about having an outdated TV, where I feel like I'm missing out on something. I can't go for plasma because I play a tonne of video games.

I'm guessing you have not seen any of the 2009 CES coverage. 240hz this year. ;)

Dude, I was just mouthing off for kicks. But you've confirmed that you have a problem. Try Shopaholics Anonymous first, worry about the TV later.

Also, plasmas can play video games. See, they are video display devices, and video games need a video display. (unlike, say...radio or cribbage)

If you really want something "different", buy a projector. ;)

I have the Samsung LN46A750 and it's amazing. I personally think the blacks it produces rival what plasmas can do.

Even if true (and I'm not convinced it is)...lets see compared to the Panasonic 50" Plasma it is smaller then the Samsung at 46", and cost almost double $850 or so verse $1,600 or so. Hummm...

To be "fair" the Panny is 720p. However, if we are talking overall picture quality and not numbers, I'd take the Panny.

Now things are getting interesting. I enjoy playing Tiger Woods golf with my son on the 94" screen. The players are bigger then me!

Yea, well... that coverage also noted that these companies have said it isn't quite 240Hz, so don't feel too bad.

I hear you on this one. I upgraded my Sony 50" 720p RP-LCD for a Sony 52" 1080/24p 120Hz set... and it's fucking killer.
