IR Remote extender?

I'm about to set up my home theater. The center speaker, it turns out, is going to block the IR remote sensor on my TV. I'm looking for a small sort of "extension cord" for the IR sensor... Something I could just position right in front of the sensor on the TV, and then have a wire extend out a little ways (past the edge of the speaker) to an IR sensor for the remote.

I've found wireless remote extenders but they're bulky and seem a little overkill for what I want to do.

Anyone know anything like what I'm describing?

Is the speaker touching the TV? If it's only in the way, not flush against it to completely block the sensor, simply aiming the remote differently could help. Or a more powerful remote like a Home Theater Master or Harmony might work better with the speaker there.

IR extenders do exist, but I'm not sure if there is something intended for quite what you asked about. You can find very small sensors, and run it to one emitter attached to the TV to make it all but invisible. An emitter should be well under $10, but a sensor would be more like $40-100+.
