Hooking up TV without Cable Box

I have an older 27 inch non HDTV that I plugged directly into the cable outlet on the wall and then ran to my Tivo and connected my Tivo to the tv using composite cables. However, the picture is all static although I can see some channels. I called Comcast but they were no help. Are we not allowed to do stuff like this anymore?

My parents have cable directly from the wall to the TV and it works fine, but they don't have Tivo.

I really cant figure out where the static is coming from. My parents have the same thing as you.

if theres poor reception its probably due to a bad splitter or the cable is split too many times.

I didn't use a splitter. Could it be some kind of block on the line or something??

i dont really understand then. how did you get cable going into your tv and tivo at the same time w/out a splitter unless you have 2 cable lines coming into your home?

I ran the the cable directly to the Tivo and plugged the Tivo into the tv with an s-video cable and a red white audio cable. Sorry for the confusion. Is there maybe another way I should do it?

no, thats the right way to do it. have you tried connected the cable directly to your TV ? If there is still bad reception after you do that then the cable line has to be split somewhere in the house or the line running into your house is no good. If thats the case then you have to get your cable co. to run you a new line.

Actually now that you mention it, I did try running it directly to the tv at first and got the same result. Ill have to call the cable co again. I called earlier and the girl really wasnt any help. Thanks for the advice.

I solved that problem. I went in the closest and found the wire, unscrewed the outlet and the outlet wasnt connected to it. Unfortunately, the wire is going to have to be fished out of the wall because I cant get it out of there.
